LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg is fighting off two lawsuits from fired city employees.
Former Deputy Chief of Staff Keisha Dorsey accuses him of defaming her when she was fired for misusing taxpayer dollars.
Another former assistant director claims her firing was decided during the mayor’s campaign. At the heart of Jessica Thornton’s lawsuit against the city is this claim.
During his campaign, Greenberg cut a deal with the Teamsters union to get rid of her in exchange for their support.
Her lawyer, David Borum, tried to convince Jefferson Circuit Judge Mitch Perry this case is not normal. He said Jessica Thornton was not fired for a real reason.
“This is not a run-of-the-mill employment law case; we have a group of people represented here today who all dislike Jessica,” said Borum.
He said he’s got some proof of that, including from former Deputy Mayor Keisha Dorsey, who swore the fix was in using a bogus human resources investigation.
“It was made to seal Jessica’s fate before their investigation ever started,” said Borum.
But one of the city’s lawyers said Dorsey’s claim doesn’t add up.
“Somebody from Teamsters was talking to somebody in the Mayor’s office. It doesn’t allege that Mayor Greenberg was talking to anybody,” said Katie Watts, who represents the mayor and Metro.
Lawyers representing the company that investigated the complaint against Thornton also said it’s too late to sue them anyway.
