All politics is local, or so the phrase goes. And while outsize attention will be on the balance of power in Congress throughout this midterm election

, it’s worth watching some of the 100-plus measures on state ballots.

Those local initiatives could have a big impact on companies and workers across the nation.

Inflation was top of mind for voters in this year’s midterm elections, helping to propel Republican candidates forward in key races and spurring predictions that Democrats will lose control of Congress.

Almost 40% of Americans said inflation was the most urgent issue facing the country today, according to a Quinnipiac University poll taken in the week preceding the Nov. 8 election. That was up nine percentage points from Quinnipiac’s late-August poll. There was a 26 percentage-point gap in the latest poll between inflation and abortion, which voters deemed the second-most-important issue.
