59 Million Won in Rewards Paid to 16 Whistleblowers Reporting National Health Insurance Fraud - 아시아경제

NHIS Selects Whistleblowers Reporting Fraudulent Claims by Medical Institutions and Misuse of Health Insurance Cards

#A Dental Clinic received 50 million won inappropriately by claiming medical insurance benefits for patients aged 65 and older who received dental implant procedures, using non-covered prosthetic materials instead of the covered prosthetic materials (PFM) eligible for insurance reimbursement. The National Health Insurance Service decided to award a 11 million won reward to the dental staff member who reported this case.

#Foreigner B illicitly used the foreigner registration number of another foreign national, C, who was eligible for national health insurance, to receive hospital treatment and other services, thereby receiving 8.9 million won in National Health Insurance benefits. The whistleblower in this case was awarded a reward of 1.7 million won.

On May 20, the National Health Insurance Service announced that it would pay a total of 59 million won in rewards to 16 whistleblowers who reported medical institutions and other entities for submitting false or fraudulent claims for medical insurance reimbursements.

Previously, at the "2026 First National Health Insurance Reporting Reward Deliberation Committee" held on May 15, the committee reviewed cases involving 11 medical institutions, 1 quasi-medical institution (a self-catheter sales business), and 4 cases related to certificates, and made these decisions.
