6th grade girl charged after falsely claiming student had gun at West Clermont Middle School - FOX19 | Cincinnati

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) - A 6th grader at West Clermont Middle School is being charged after making false statements, according to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.

The student, an 11-year-old girl, told her entire class early Thursday that she saw a student with a gun in the school hallway, the sheriff’s office explained.

School administrators and the school resource officer (SRO) were told about the claims around 8:30 a.m.

The school SRO started investigating as additional Clermont County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the school for security.

After talking with staff and students, the 11-year-old girl was identified as the student who claimed another student had a gun, according to the sheriff’s office.

“During the student interview, she stated that she lied and she imagined this, adding that she never saw anyone with a weapon,” the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office explained. “Camera footage was reviewed, which confirmed there was no one with a weapon in the hallways as initially reported.”

The 11-year-old is charged with falsification and making false alarms, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was released to her parents and placed on suspension pending further disciplinary action by school officials, the sheriff’s office added.
