Before embarking on a journey to the Australian continent for making history, USWNT will play a couple of friendlies. The squad had been announced and NWSL will be on break for this weekend. These couple of friendlies against Ireland are the only matches the team will play before the first match of their Women’s World Cup campaign.

The biggest shock for fans came not when USWNT announced their squad, but when they came to know that Gotham FC midfielder Sinead Farrelly will start for Ireland in the upcoming matches. The 33-year-old has played an international match in his career despite being a part of a couple of junior squads.

Farrelly got back to NWSL just last week after 2015. In 2015, she left the league and went public in 2021 about how she was treated by her coach. Her revelation prompted a major investigation within the league. Sinead Farrelly had already joined Gotham FC this preseason but now has signed the contract.
Talking about her in a show, teammate Lynn Williams said, “Every day when I see her at training, she’s so technically good that half the time I’m like, ‘Sinead, give me the ball.’ If I’m defending her, I’m like, ‘Just give it to me!’ But I can’t get it off her.” With such a good skill set, it’s no surprise that Ireland saw an opportunity, and they cashed it in.
