$8.5M settlement reached in lawsuit involving UPMC surgeon - WTAE Pittsburgh

An $8.5 million settlement has been reached in a federal fraud case involving a UPMC surgeon.

Dr. James Luketich, UPMC, and UPMC's Physician Practice Group were accused of violations of the False Claims Act, allegedly submitting hundreds of materially false claims for payment to Medicare, Medicaid and government health benefit programs.

When the case was filed in 2021, UPMC and Dr. Luketich both initially said they would defend themselves against the claims.
