The cricketer at the heart of devastating revelations about a culture of racism in cricket today described how threats and abuse have forced him to leave the country. Azeem Rafiq, who lifted the lid on shocking practices at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, today told MPs that a man climbed into his garden to defecate while another circled his home waving a chain.

Mr Rafiq appeared with fellow cricketer Jahid Ahmed before the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee today to give evidence following the devastating revelations last year about Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the wider culture in cricket.

The cricketer told MPs that he was "saddened" to have to appear before them again, 13 months on from his first appearance but reflected on how little had changed in the game.

He said: "The only thing that has changed is that I have left the country."

Earlier, cricket journalist George Dobell revealed how Mr Rafiq had to travel around with three security guards when he was back in the country.

MPs and Mr Dobell were critical of the Yorkshire Post accusing it of being "the voice of the racists" in leading a campaign attacking Mr Rafiq for his revelations.
