Two days after the father of a 19-year-old Delhi University (DU) student was arrested in a rape case, the girl’s brother has been apprehended for conspiring and providing false information about a staged acid attack on her, Delhi Police said. The girl’s paternal uncle has also been apprehended on the same charges.
“In connection with the FIR registered under sections 231 (fabricating false evidence), 217 (providing false information to a public servant), 124(1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita… at Bharat Nagar police station, two accused persons have been arrested. Charges of conspiracy will be levied against them,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
According to a senior police officer, the girl’s uncle conspired with her father to orchestrate the acid attack and falsely implicate three other men. The student’s younger brother had allegedly dropped her near the college, after which she met her father, the officer added.
“During the student’s questioning, she revealed that her brother had dropped her near her college. She then took an e-rickshaw to travel further, where she met her father, who was waiting for her with a bottle of toilet cleaner,” the officer said.
The father then allegedly poured the acidic liquid on her hands and bag before fleeing on a motorcycle, the officer added. The woman began shouting for help, attracting the attention of passersby, police said.
