WASHINGTON, DC, June 23, 2026 — WhistleblowerAid.org Chief Legal Counsel Andrew P. Bakaj issued the following statement in response to reports that Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte intends to make significant cuts to ODNI:
“The media is reporting that Acting DNI Bill Pulte is planning to drastically reduce the ODNI’s (Office of the Director of National Intelligence) size and workforce. We believe that it is imperative that no steps should be taken that threaten the ability of intelligence community professionals to have an outlet to report illegal or unethical activity. The Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) is an independent component of the ODNI, and serves the vital function of investigating reports of wrongdoing across the entire Intelligence Community. Acting DNI Pulte must preserve the independence and neutrality of the ICIG. Any attempts to weaken or dismantle the office should be seen as a deliberate undermining of the ICIG’s purpose and an attempt to prevent accountability for intelligence community leaders.”
