Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently took his bogus ‘Vote Chori‘ claims to a new level and accused the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of “Party Chori” (Party theft). In a post made on X on September 18, 2026, the Congress scion claimed that the BJP and the Election Commission join forces to split political parties and snatch away their election symbols. He accused the top election body of acting in consonance with the ruling BJP to “overturn people’s verdict”.

Gandhi accused the BJP and the ECI of causing splits in the Shiv Sena, the National Congress Party (NCP), and now the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and “stealing” parties. He went on to claim, without any proof, that just like the BJP was able to steal parties with the help of the ECI, it can also steal millions of votes.

“Every time, the same pattern—BJP and the Election Commission join forces to split a party. Then its election symbol is snatched away. When an entire party can be stolen, it’s hardly surprising that the votes of millions of Indians can be stolen too. Vote theft. Government theft. Now party theft—these have become symbols of our democratic decline. The ECI’s constitutional responsibility is to protect the mandate—but instead, it’s aiding those very forces that overturn the people’s verdict,” Gandhi claimed.

“This fight isn’t just Mamata Banerjee’s. It’s the fight of every political party, every voter who wants free and fair elections,” he added.
