AI-Generated Video Falsely Claims to Show U.S. Aircraft Damaged in Iranian Attack - موقع مسبار

Social media users circulated a video showing a military aircraft taxiing on a runway while smoke rises from one of its partially damaged engines, claiming it depicts a U.S. aircraft that was struck during the recent military escalation between the United States and Iran.

Misbar’s team at Al Araby TV investigated the circulating video and accompanying claim and found them to be misleading. The footage does not show a U.S. aircraft damaged in an Iranian attack. Rather, it was generated using artificial intelligence technologies.

A search for the origin of the clip led to a TikTok account that published the video on May 6, accompanied by a caption stating that an “A-10 aircraft returned safely to base after being hit by a surface-to-air missile.” The account regularly posts videos that are edited or enhanced using artificial intelligence tools and are based on real-world events and images.

Visual analysis of the footage revealed several indicators consistent with AI-generated content. Among them is the disappearance of one of the markings visible on the aircraft’s left tail in the opening frames when the footage transitions to closer shots of the damaged engine. Additionally, the smoke emerging from the engine displays an artificial visual behavior inconsistent with the characteristics of real smoke captured in video recordings.
