Strengthening Disaster Response

Murray Watt, the Minister for Emergency Management, recently announced that the Albanese Government is diligently working on enhancing the Commonwealth's disaster response capabilities. This development comes in the wake of the public release of submissions for the Alternative Commonwealth Capabilities for Crisis Response Discussion Paper.

The government is dedicated to devising long-term solutions to resource response and recovery efforts in natural disasters. The Australian Defence Force will only be deployed for domestic aid as a last resort, in accordance with the 2023 Defence Strategic Review. The Department of Home Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency will leverage the information gathered from the Discussion Paper to guide policy development.

Support for Whistleblower Protection

The Albanese government is being pressed by former whistleblowers, experts, and civil society groups to establish a Whistleblower Protection Authority to bolster the country's integrity and regulatory landscape.
