All Texas Roadhouse locations brace for new 50cent policy under July ‘hourly’ law - the-sun.com

TEXAS Roadhouse as well as other major restaurants and retailers in one US state are all bracing for a new 50-cent bump law to take effect in July.

When the legislation is implemented this summer, it will force all entry-level employers in the state to raise the minimum wage by half a dollar.

With high inflation and economic uncertainty weighing on consumers’ wallets, pay floor laws nationwide are being proposed and passed left and right.

For example, both Oakland, California, and New York City are seeking legislation to hike their minimum wages to $30 an hour – which would be the highest in the country.

Over in Oregon, where the cost of living is not quite as high, lawmakers will impose a modest pay floor bump of 50 cents starting July 1, the state’s Bureau of Labor and Industries announced Thursday.

The state has three varying minimum wages, which will be raised to $16.80 for the Portland metro area, $15.55 for standard counties, and $14.55 for non-urban counties.

The rural wage is always $1 under the standard wage, and the Portland minimum wage is always $1.25 more.

The pay bumps will impact all entry-level employers across the state, including national chains such as Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Target, Walmart, Aldi, and more.

These annual increases are mandatory under Oregon state law based on inflation, with state regulators calculating a 50-cent pay floor raise using the US city average consumer price index of 3.3% between March 2025 and 2026.
