All Walmart stores hit with $21.65 rule as city rolls out new ‘hourly law - the-sun.com
WALMART stores, among many, are bracing for a new law that will increase their costs.
The city of Tukwila, Washington, is joining multiple other areas across the country in raising its minimum wage for employees.
Minimum wage employees in Tukwila are paid $21.65, according to the city’s website.
The ordinance also specifies that employees who are eligible receive additional hours of work and are given fair access.
Tukwila initially passed minimum wage reforms in 2023, which were approved the previous year.
Washington’s legislation was phased in, and first hit businesses deemed large or medium-sized.
On July 1, 2025, Tukwila implemented the same minimum wage across the city, $21.10.
Annual minimum wage updates are calculated according to the Tukwila Municipal Code.
Tukwila requires businesses in the city to certify that they meet the minimum wage standards.
This must be done annually by January 31.
Records must be completed to confirm compliance with the Ordinance, and the city must be able to inspect the records.
