CDC CALLS FOR MORE BOOSTER SHOTS AS OMICRON VARIANT SPREADS
WASHINGTON — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has broadened its recommendation for COVID-19 booster shots for all adults as the new omicron variant shows up in more countries. The agency had previously approved boosters for all adults, but only recommended them for those 50 years and older — or if they live in a long-term care setting. CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky says this new guidance reflects the emergence of the omicron variant. The variant has not yet been identified in the U.S. But officials say it will inevitably get here. She also encourages Americans who feel unwell to seek out a COVID-19 test, saying “Increased testing will help us identify Omicron quickly.”
MAN ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL ON COMMUTER RAIL RAPE NEAR PHILADELPHIA
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man accused of raping a woman on a commuter train outside Philadelphia while other passengers were present was ordered held for trial by a magistrate judge. The suspect, Fiston Ngoy, 35, is charged with rape and related offenses. The Oct. 13 attack on a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority train drew international attention. Police and other authorities initially said bystanders on the train should have intervened. But officials later said many of those passengers likely didn't understand what was gong on — or didn't realize a rape was happening on the train.
