SCHODACK — The fledgling Amazon Labor Union, which in October tried to help organize workers in the Capital Region, has retained a workers compensation law firm to help injured workers at the company’s Staten Island warehouse.

The extent to which the law firm of McIntyre, Donohue, Accardi, Salmonson & Riordan LLP may be working in the Capital Region is unclear, though, amid what appears to be a split in leadership between the Staten Island union and organizers based in the Albany area.

“The Amazon Labor Union (ALU) right now is really about JFK8 (Staten Island) and expanding its reach nationwide,” law firm partner Sean Riordan said in a phone interview Wednesday. “We can help everybody in the Albany area who is injured in the course of the work,” he added.

But Heather Goodall, who led the October effort to unionize Schodack workers, said she wasn’t aware of the arrangement.

“I didn’t know about it until Wednesday,” she said, adding there is no formal agreement between union activists in Schodack and the ALU or the law firm.

“I was not provided any info therefore I can’t say that we are going to be working with this attorney.” she added.

Goodall also noted that Schodack workers who have been injured and sought workers compensation have gotten their own lawyers when needed.

The Amazon Labor Union was organized by Chris Smalls, who pushed for a union after he was fired at the Staten Island center. The union won its first and only victory against Amazon to date in April...
