ANC vows to become whistleblower on corruption in Tshwane - IOL

In an interesting twist for a party long dogged by allegations of corruption, the African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane says it is ready to become a whistleblower against corruption in the city, including its municipal deployees.

In a media briefing on Tuesday, the party called for the immediate suspension of Tshwane CFO Gareth Mnisi, accusing him of maladministration and incompetence.

ANC regional secretary George Matjila said the party refuses to remain “the face of corruption” while officials implicated in wrongdoing operate behind the scenes.

“The corruption that has been happening is done by officials who are known,” Matjila said. “It is time that we, as the ANC, hold the bull by its horns and expose corruption.”

Matjila’s remarks follow discussions at the Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) Lekgotla, where concerns were raised about officials whose alleged misconduct, he said, has damaged the credibility of political organisations.

“For too long, people say the ANC is corrupt,” Matjila said.

“But those whose hands are found in the cookie jar are not exposed. We are taking a firm position; we will deal with them internally, but we will also expose them publicly so communities know action is being taken.”

He stressed that corruption should not be weaponised as a partisan attack.
