ANC Eastern Cape secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi has threatened to take his boss and political superior, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, to court for defamation of character over claims he may be to blame for the list submission blunder for Eastern Cape municipalities.
Ngcukayitobi, through his lawyers, Mabuza attorneys, has written to Mbalula demanding “a full and unconditional and mutually agreed retraction of “falsehoods” he said were published by Mbalula against him.
Mbalula has until 12:00 next Tuesday to retract what Ngcukayitobi’s attorneys described as lies.
The ANC is at the centre of a massive blunder after failing to submit its list of nominated candidates to the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) before the 17:00 deadline on 28 August.
The 17 September letter reads: “Our client has instructed us that you have caused the publication of false and defamatory statements which impugn his integrity, standing and reputation.”
