Ang disavows role in sabungero case, sues whistleblower - The Manila Times

BUSINESSMAN and gaming tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang on Thursday denied any involvement in the disappearance of more than 30 sabungeros or cockfighting enthusiasts and filed criminal charges against whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan and alleged accomplice Alan Bantiles, also known as “Brown.” The complaint, filed at the Office of the City Prosecutor in Mandaluyong, includes serious charges of conspiracy to commit attempted robbery with violence or intimidation, grave threats, grave coercion, slander, and falsely incriminating innocent individuals.

“This all comes down to money,” Ang said during a press conference, accusing Patidongan and Bantiles of attempting to extort hundreds of millions of pesos from him and other members of the Pitmasters foundation.

“They’ve been calling each of our group members one by one — extorting. Maybe he thought, after saying all sorts of nonsense, he could just walk away once he got the money,” Ang said.

He said Patidongan and Bantiles had approached him as early as February this year, demanding P300 million in exchange for keeping Ang’s name out of the controversy. “What Brown told me was, to fix everything, I should give P300 million — that’s why I cursed at him, that’s where it all started, as early as February, before he filed, before he made the affidavit [of recantation]. We had a telephone call about it — actually, I can prove that to you in the future... that they were really the ones pleading, really extorting,” he said.
