Trichy: Calling the accusations of BJP state president K Annamalai over the use of funds under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) baseless, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that the Tamil Nadu govt has properly utilized the funds.
“Tamil Nadu govt is implementing various schemes under different names for the improvement of students’ education, but the Union govt is refusing to provide funds requested by the state govt,” he told reporters in Trichy on Wednesday.

The statement comes in response to a post of Annamalai on X that the funds for the SSA scheme were reduced because the Tamil Nadu govt did not properly implement the scheme.
Anbil Mahesh also said the Union govt has allocated 8,971 crore to Tamil Nadu under SSA in the past five years. In the 2021-22, 1,598 crore was provided, which was increased to 2,107 crore in the 2022-23. “The Union govt is pressuring the Tamil Nadu govt to adopt the New Education Policy (NEP). They say that immediate funding will be provided if Tamil Nadu joins the PM Schools for Rising India scheme.”
He said that the Union govt has not yet released even the first instalment of this year’s funds. “This has placed a financial burden on the Tamil Nadu govt. However, we are taking appropriate steps to ensure that salaries are paid to teachers without any disruption,” he said emphasizing the need to bring education under the state list.
