Another lawsuit filed against Amazon due December tornado - Alton Telegraph

EDWARDSVILLE -- The estate of man who died in the collapse of the Edwardsville Amazon warehouse has filed suit against Amazon, Contegra Construction Co. and others.

The plaintiff of the estate of Deandre Morrow claims the defendants are responsible for paying mental anguish, physical impairment, wrongful death, lost wages and disfigurement. The 14-count suit is asking for at least $50,000 in each count. The plaintiff locally is represented by Patrick King of Alton and Benjamin O'Conner, of the law firm of Hilliard, Martinez and Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Texas, who signed the complaint. Nationally known attorney Ben Crump has issued a news release that he too is an attorney in the case.

The Morrow suit is the second suit filed against the defendants. The first one was filed by the family of Austin McEwen, 26, of Edwardsville, a delivery driver.

The Morrow estate is represented by Deon January. Morrow is from Belleville.

The Morrow suit claims Amazon used a number of contracted divers and delivery carriers, known as Delivery Service Partners (DSPs), to drive, haul and make deliveries for Amazon.

“The program was carefully designed to allow and ALI (its parent) to shift cost and liabilities onto the DSPs while maintaining complete control of the DSPs day-to-day operations, drivers and potential for success," the suit alleges.
