Appellate panel trims $3M award in whistleblower verdict - Chicago Daily Law Bulletin

The city of Chicago must pay $2.8 million to a former detective who alleged retaliation under the Illinois Whistleblower Act but not the original $4.3 million originally awarded by a jury, a state appellate panel ruled.A majority of the 1st District Appellate Court affirmed the judgment against the city, but reduced the verdict’s $3 million award for emotional distress in half. One justice partially dissented with the majority’s finding that the original amount for emotional distress was excessive.Justice Debra B.
