The Archdiocese of Malta on Monday categorically rejects the false and misleading claims published by The Shift News in an article titled 'Anger within Curia over costly conversion of ODZ farmhouse for Archbishop Scicluna'.
The article constructs a narrative that bears little or no resemblance to the facts, a statement by the archdiocese said. A property which is currently not habitable has been falsely portrayed as a venue being used by the Archbishop to host "private gatherings with friends" at weekends. While the Archbishop is vested with the authority to administer Church property, this allegation is entirely untrue. Neither the Archbishop nor any other person has organised or held gatherings at this property, the statement added.
Information provided to The Shift News by the Curia was selectively interpreted and distorted to fit a preconceived narrative, reflecting a clear agenda rather than any genuine commitment to accurate and responsible journalism, the statement said.
"This approach is consistent with previous reporting of Church-related issues by The Shift News, despite repeated efforts by the Archdiocese to provide clear and factual information."
The decision to renovate this Church-owned property on the outskirts of Rabat was taken to prevent it from falling into further disrepair and potential misuse, including the risk of abandonment or illegal occupation, as has happened in the past, the statement said.
