Arizona governor primary election results: Voters decide on nominees - The Arizona Republic

Arizona voters who didn't cast early ballots head to the polls Tuesday to select their party's nominees for governor, one of whom will replace two-term Republican Gov. Doug Ducey following the November general election.

The first results are expected to come about an hour after polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, though if the contests are close the outcome may not be known for days.

The primary vote will winnow a field of four Republican candidates and two Democratic hopefuls after an intense 15-month campaign in which the national spotlight was trained on Arizona, with the close GOP contest drawing political power players hoping to sway voters in the final stretch.

The partisan contests saw unprecedented fundraising and spending, a reflection of close campaigns in a battleground state seen as up for grabs by either a Republican or Democrat.

Republican nomination

On the Republican side, voters are choosing between political newcomer Kari Lake, a former Fox 10 news anchor, who faces a member of the Kunasek political dynasty, Karrin Taylor Robson, a former member of the Board of Regents, real estate developer and lobbyist.

Two other Republican candidates, Scottsdale businesswoman Paola Tulliani-Zen and Mesa businessman Scott Neely, mounted bids for governor but in terms of fundraising and polling consistently trailed the two race leaders.
