An Arkansas man who police say is a "serial social-media provocateur" has been arrested for falsely making claims about firearms and contraband inside a jail.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. — An Arkansas man who is a self-proclaimed community activist has now been arrested following a series of what officials say were deliberate and false public statements, triggering an emergency response.
According to reports, on April 3, 2026, Mark Cannon allegedly used social media platforms, including Facebook Live, to falsely make a claim that a firearm had been introduced into Misdemeanor Pod 1 at the Jefferson County jail.
During the livestream, Cannon repeatedly stated that a gun was inside the housing unit and further alleged that contraband was being smuggled into the facility by detention personnel.
While he made those claims via the stream, Cannon also reportedly displayed what looked to be a firearm while on camera.
Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office shared that in response to the seriousness of the allegation, deputies and detention personnel immediately initiated emergency response protocols, which included a full search of the identified housing unit.
However, no firearm or related contraband was discovered during a search.
This incident was part of a documented pattern of behavior in which police say that Cannon has knowingly disseminated false information to provoke panic and disrupt law enforcement operations.
