Army debunks mutiny claims, says report false, harmful to national security - Businessday NG

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false and misleading an online report alleging that soldiers were threatening mutiny over issues relating to salaries and allowances, warning that such claims are sensational and capable of undermining national security.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, said there was no threat of mutiny within the Nigerian Army, describing the report as baseless and disconnected from the realities within the force.

According to the statement, mutiny is a grave offence under military law and is completely alien to the ethos, discipline and professionalism of the Nigerian Army.

It stressed that officers and soldiers of the Army remain loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

It faulted the report for relying on anonymous and unverifiable claims circulated through non-official channels, noting that such narratives do not represent the views or disposition of Nigerian Army personnel, who are trained to channel grievances through established military procedures.

The Army also clarified misconceptions surrounding military pay, explaining that promotion increments constitute only one component of remuneration and should not be misrepresented as total earnings.
