PORTLAND, Maine — An Arundel man has agreed to pay $330,607 after allegations of submitting false claims to Medicare and MaineCare.
Gary Winn, D.O., former medical director and owner of Provider’s Care family medical practice in Biddeford and Sanford, agreed to a civil settlement between himself and the United States and the State of Maine after a complaint alleged he submitted false claims to Medicare in Mainecare, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine.
The complaint alleged Winn submitted false claims from Jan. 2014 through Nov. 2017 in violation of the False Claims Act and Maine's false claims statute, the release stated. The United States filed the complaint against him in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine on April 27.
The U.S. and State of Maine alleged Winn "knowingly submitted to Medicare and MaineCare claims for payment for medical services that were not provided or were not medically reasonable or necessary, including osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT) services, evaluation, and management services, tobacco use cessation counseling visits, outpatient visits, and patient drug testing services."
