The Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) has called on employers to, in accordance with new legal obligations, designate an impartial person, or organizational unit, within the prescribed deadlines to act on whistleblower reports and adopt an internal act that will regulate the manner of action in more detail.
ASK stated in a statement that they welcome the entry into force of the special Law on the Protection of Whistleblowers, which is fully aligned with the European Union Directive 2019/1937 on the protection of persons reporting violations of Union law.
As they said, the protection of whistleblowers has so far been regulated by the provisions of the Law on the Prevention of Corruption, while the adoption of a special Law establishes a strong and comprehensive legal framework dedicated exclusively to whistleblowers.
"The agency calls on employers, in accordance with the new legal obligations, to designate an impartial person, or organizational unit, to handle reports within the prescribed deadlines, as well as to adopt an internal act that will more closely regulate the manner of handling reports," the statement states.
ASK said that the new law brings numerous improvements and regulates in more detail the entire system of protection and support for whistleblowers, both through judicial protection and through support mechanisms that will be provided by the Agency.
