Assault claims against ex-UM assistant investigated; Moore did nothing wrong, lawyer says - The Detroit News

A former Michigan football assistant coach has been fired from his job with the Atlanta Falcons following allegations of sexual and physical abuse stemming from his time on staff in Ann Arbor.

LaTroy Lewis was fired as assistant defensive line coach with the Falcons, the team announced Friday afternoon, hours after it said it was investigating the claims following an online report published Thursday.

Also Friday, Ann Arbor police confirmed they are investigating allegations of sexual assault, after a woman filed a report with the department Thursday.

"The Ann Arbor Police Department was just recently made aware of allegations regarding a sexual assault reported to have occurred on December 5, 2024," the police department said in a statement. "The suspect in this investigation is LaTroy Lewis. The AAPD Detective Bureau launched an immediate investigation into the incident. This investigation remains active and ongoing."

Ann Arbor police but did not disclose the name of the woman. The Detroit News is not naming the woman. The News reached out to the woman Friday and hasn't received a response. The woman's lawyer confirmed to The News that her client also has petitioned for a personal protectiion order.

A lawyer for former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore, Lewis' ex-boss, denied wrongdoing on Moore's part.
