Atchannaidu accuses Jagan of false claims, challenges him to debate on farmer welfare - The Hindu

Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu on Thursday came down heavily on former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy dubbing him as the “Ambassador of Lies” and accusing him of misleading farmers and the public with false claims.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Atchannaidu said the alliance government’s performance over the past 18 months highlights the failures of the previous YSRCP administration.

The Minister claimed that the agricultural sector suffered severe setbacks during Mr. Jagan’s tenure and alleged that the former CM is attempting to mask these failures through misinformation. He said the current government has ensured transparency in decision-making and robust support systems for farmers, unlike the unfulfilled guarantees of the previous regime.

Mr. Atchannaidu cited pending payments of 1,674 crore for paddy procurement left by the YSRCP, which the alliance government cleared promptly. Since assuming office, he said, the administration has released 13,858 crore for kharif and rabi 2024–25 paddy procurement, with 95% of payments made within 48 hours.

The Minister also highlighted market intervention initiatives, noting that over 800 crore was spent in 16 months to stabilise crop prices for tobacco, mango, onion, cocoa, and tomato, compared with only 1,475 crore spent by the previous government.
