Atong Ang says he has evidence vs sabungeros case whistleblower - Inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines — Business tycoon Atong Ang said on Wednesday that he had evidence against the whistleblower who tagged him as the alleged mastermind of the case of the missing sabungeros, or cockfighting aficionados.

Ang’s spokesperson, Atty. Gabriel Villareal, made the pronouncement as they welcomed the start of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) preliminary investigation on the case of the missing sabungeros.

“We welcome the opportunity to respond frontally to the accusations which have since been shrouded in innuendo and unsubstantiated claims by a Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, who, by evidence we have unearthed in the meantime, appears to have had motive to and is the one responsible for the disappearances,” Villareal said.

Ang was implicated in the case after being identified by whistleblower Patidongan as the mastermind behind the disappearance of the sabungeros.

Patidongan was also the same whistleblower who made the harrowing claim that all the missing sabungeros had been killed and buried beneath Taal Lake in Batangas.

According to Ang in the statement, Patidongan pinned the blame on his superiors and benefactors as it was the “easy way out of his impending imprisonment.”

“I challenge Dondon to stop hiding behind Secretary [Jesus Crispin] Remulla and to prove his accusations with evidence,” Ang said in Filipino in the same statement.

“He should also prepare for and take responsibility for the consequences of his actions,” he added.
