After an $880,000 settlement in October in a class action accusing a network of south Georgia farming operations of years of underpayment to migrant workers, a federal judge in Valdosta last week OK’d nearly a quarter-million dollars more in attorney fees and expenses for lawyers representing more than 1,000 class members.

The settlement and award brings to a close litigation leveling claims for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and Migrant Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, as well as state law claims for fraud and breach of contract.
