Authorities investigating false signature on Smith recall ballot | Davison Index - Davisonindex

DAVISON TWP. — Evidence suggesting a local man signed a false name to one of the petitions being circulated to recall a school board member has been collected and sent to the Michigan Secretary of State.

Township Clerk Pat Miller and Genesee County Clerk John Gleason held a press conference Dec. 20 to announce there is an investigation into a Davison Township man who signed a recall petition against Matthew Smith using a fake name and recorded himself doing it; the recording later turning up on his wife’s social media where she boasted he had deliberately signed with an incorrect name to force the whole ballot to be tossed out.

Miller said the wife in question is his recent Republican opponent for the clerk’s office, Morgan Jackson, and her husband, Dustin Absalom Rhinebolt, is accused of signing the false signature.

Miller, who just recently was voted in as clerk, said when he agreed to run for clerk in the special election it was to ensure the security of the election process in the township would remain as it has always been; safe, secure and professional.

“With the voter’s approval, I feel I have obtained this mandate. What is precipitating all of this today is it was brought to my attention that my opponent in the special election has not only condemned fraud, but vocally participated in it,” said Miller. “She knew that her husband signed a recall petition with a fictitious name and went so far as to go on Facebook and bragged...
