Balakos files objections to ruling that dismissed her whistleblower complaint - WTOV Steubenville

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — Former Jefferson County Health Commissioner Nicole Balakos filed objections to a November ruling that dismissed her whistleblower complaint against the board of health.

The state Personnel Board of Review ruled that she was terminated because the board believed it faced issues over her failure to step down as board president when she was interviewed to become commissioner in June 2019.

Her objections say the “big dogs” in Jefferson County government wanted her terminated for attempting to enforce COVID orders, including at the courthouse, and were looking for justification to terminate her.

She notes a complaint from Commissioner David Maple says the board directed her not to enforce state COVID orders and said a sham investigation into her employment was used to terminate her.
