Bankrupt Urbandale businessman accused of pandemic loan fraud - The Des Moines Register
An Urbandale businessman is facing federal charges accusing him of lying to obtain pandemic loans and then making false statements in bankruptcy proceedings, allegations that mirror concerns raised months earlier about his role in the shuttered Pots & Shots bar and plant shop in West Des Moines.
A federal grand jury in Des Moines last month returned a three-count indictment alleging that Henry Schappert, 57, applied for and obtained over $415,000 of Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans in 2020 and 2021 “ostensibly on behalf of his company, Allied Exteriors.” He was charged with two counts of false statement on a loan application and one count of false declaration during bankruptcy proceeding.
