East Penn Manufacturing Co. must pay more than $22 million in back wages after a federal jury sided with the Labor Department in a suit alleging wage-and-hour violations, the agency announced Wednesday.
The award, which will benefit more than 7,500 of the battery manufacturer’s workers, is the “largest recorded” Fair Labor Standards Act verdict DOL has obtained, and the agency plans to seek an equal amount in liquidated damages following the “historic jury award,” according to a DOL press release.
