Coutts owners NatWest have already issued an apology over the banking debacle that has dominated the news over the last few weeks.

The BBC's business editor has failed to apologise after the corporation published an article claiming Nigel Farage's Coutts accounts were closed because he could not meet the wealth limit.

The corporation published an article with the headline: "Nigel Farage bank account shut for falling below wealth limit", earlier this month.

The text of the story disclosed the corporation was "told" about the claims by a source close to decision-makers, who said it was a "commercial" decision.

The article was corrected after Mr Farage obtained records from the bank - which is owned by NatWest - disclosing Coutts' reasoning.

He has since called for an apology, but business editor Simon Jack has failed to provide one since its original publication on Tuesday, July 4.

Mr Jack responded following the publication of a 40-page dossier received by Mr Farage, who submitted a subject access request to the bank, showing that Coutts senior staffers had raised “xenophobic, chauvinistic and racist views” in their decision-making.
