The Bengaluru daycare abuse case has taken a new turn with the arrest of the whistleblower accused of circulating videos that led to the police investigation
The whistleblower who exposed the alleged abuse of children at a daycare centre inside Bengaluru’s Capgemini technology park has been arrested for allegedly circulating videos showing the incidents, police said.
According to officials, action was taken against the woman for allegedly leaking sensitive footage recorded inside the daycare. Police maintained that while the videos helped bring the alleged abuse to light, their circulation violated legal provisions relating to sensitive material.
The arrest comes a day after the whistleblower was questioned by police. Her family members and child rights activists had earlier expressed concern over the prolonged questioning and alleged lack of clarity regarding the purpose of her detention.
The videos, which went viral earlier this week, allegedly showed caregivers mistreating children as young as two years old. In one clip, toddlers were seen inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine while staff sprayed water on them. Another video purportedly showed children being locked inside bathrooms.
