Bengaluru: Police have arrested another caretaker of the now-closed daycare centre run inside the Capgemini campus in Brookefield, Whitefield, over the alleged abuse of children at the facility.
HAL police arrested Sujatha, a former employee of the daycare centre, on Saturday for allegedly recording videos of children being assaulted and later circulating them to her male friend.
According to investigators, 45-year-old Sujatha from Kolar worked at the daycare centre when the alleged incidents took place. During her employment, she is said to have recorded videos showing caretakers physically assaulting children. She was later dismissed from her job.
Police said she subsequently sent the videos to her male friend to alert the Child Protection helpline about the abuse via WhatsApp.
A senior police officer said Sujatha was also accused of assaulting children.
With Sujatha’s arrest, the number of accused held in the case has risen to two. Vijayalakshmi, another caretaker, was arrested on Friday and is currently in jail.
Police are continuing their investigation into the role of four other staff members, as well as the management.
However, Sujatha’s arrest has sparked concern among child protection officials, who say the investigation should remain focused on those responsible for the abuse rather than the person who exposed it.
