The Biden administration is extending the duration of temporary visas for Chinese journalists working in the US, a move reflecting commitments to press freedoms in China.
A final rule issued Wednesday will relax, but not completely reverse, Trump-era restrictions that limited work visas for journalists from China to 90 days. The new regulations, scheduled to be published in Thursday’s Federal Register, allow the Department of Homeland Security to issue visas for up to one year.
The work visas for foreign media, known as I visas, had previously allowed open-ended stays for the duration of a journalist’s work in the US. ...
