Biden Links Attack on Pelosi's Husband to False Election Claims, Urges Voters to Reject Violence - The Wall Street Journal

President Biden condemned the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, linking a rise in political violence and intimidation to the falsehoods about the 2020 election pushed by former President Donald Trump, and warned against candidates who haven’t committed to accepting the midterm results.

With less than a week to go before elections that could erase Democratic majorities in Congress, Mr. Biden on Wednesday night argued the nation’s democracy was under threat. He said “MAGA Republicans” – a reference to Mr. Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan – are questioning not just the “legitimacy of past elections, but elections being held now and into the future.”

Pointing to candidates for governor, Congress and other roles who have declined to commit to accept the results of the upcoming election, Mr. Biden warned, “This is the path to chaos in America. It’s unprecedented. It’s unlawful. And it’s un-American.”

In the 15-minute speech at Union Station in Washington, D.C, Mr. Biden said the false claims about the 2020 election led to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters. He noted that the mob yelled “Where’s Nancy?” when they stormed the Capitol, the same question Paul Pelosi’s alleged attacker asked when he broke into the Pelosis’ California home before beating Mr. Pelosi with a hammer.
