RAIPUR: Accusing Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel of peddling lies regarding the inclusion of 12 tribal communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST), the opposition BJP stated on Tuesday that the tribals had been neglected under the Congress rule.
Senior tribal leader and former minister Mahesh Gagda strongly condemned the chief minister for claiming credit for the Congress party.
"I heard the chief minister claiming that the 12 tribal communities of Chhattisgarh were given the ST status due to the untiring efforts of his party and frequent letter correspondence by him, which is a 'white lie.' When the bill regarding the 12 tribal communities' inclusion in the ST list was approved by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet in 2016, then what is the role of the Congress here," the tribal leader said while sharing the documents pertaining to the matter.
In a letter addressed to chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, Gagda expressed his concerns about the misleading claims made by him regarding the amendment bill and its presentation in 2016.
Reminding the chief minister that the bill was already presented two years prior to the Congress forming the government in Chhattisgarh in 2018, Gagda accused him of making humorous claims about the inclusion of the tribal communities in the Scheduled Tribes list.
Gagda said that Congress leaders boycotted the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha when the bill was passed with a voice vote.
