BJP slams Rahul Gandhi, calls all his claims ‘false’ - The Statesman

The BJP on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha and later in his press conference, accusing him of making “false claims” and repeatedly “shifting the goalposts.”

Addressing media persons, twice in the day, BJP spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra rejected Gandhi’s allegation that bullets were fired at protesting students and that Shah had ordered the use of force. Calling the claim “false”, Patra asserted that no firing took place during the protest and said such decisions are taken by the magistrate on the spot, not by the Home Minister.

Patra challenged Gandhi’s claim that Shah’s convoy consisted of 30 vehicles. “Come with us and count them. Show us where Amit Shah’s convoy had 30 vehicles,” he said.

Trashing Gandhi’s allegation that Shah was “trembling” inside his vehicle, Patra said, “Amit Shah is the person before whom terrorists and Naxals tremble, not the other way around.”

Accusing Gandhi of invoking Shah’s name merely to create a sensation, Patra said, “Rahul Gandhi asks, ‘Where is the Union Home Minister?’ Unlike you, the Home Minister has responsibilities towards the entire nation. Unlike you, he does not disappear on unexplained foreign trips.”
