Blaise Ingoglia announces arrest of man charged with making bogus health insurance claims - Florida Politics
Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia says a Florida man has been arrested on charges of submitting at least 15 bogus health insurance claims.
Torey Jermaine Keith was arrested July 11. Ingoglia said the false claims amounted to nearly $160,000 in payments.
The Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was contacted by Keith’s insurance company after the firm was unable to verify his claims after it paid out the money on the filings.
“When criminals submit fraudulent claims, they aren’t just stealing, they are driving up the costs and insurance premiums for Floridians and their families across the state,” Ingoglia said in a news release.
“This arrest serves as a warning for criminals who try to exploit the insurance system for their own financial gain. My investigators will continue to pursue fraudsters and bring them to justice.”
Keith has been charged with making false and fraudulent insurance claims, uttering a forged instrument and organized scheme to defraud.
Ingoglia has substantially ramped up insurance fraud investigations since he was appointed CFO last year. Last week, he announced the arrest of an undocumented migrant on charges he filed bogus life insurance policy applications. The alleged scheme involved using the applications to garner insurance commission payments.
In June Ingoglia oversaw the CID arrests of a dozen people accused of conducting a scheme to defraud public assistance programs in Florida.
