A cafe owner has been ordered to pay $90,000 after he hugged and kissed a 23-year-old waitress while she was washing the dishes, in the first ruling under the Albanese government’s new sexual harassment laws.
The Federal Circuit Court backed the penalties and compensation after Cheenu Kehal, owner of Cafe Capital Grind in Canberra admitted he sexually harassed a married migrant worker from Colombia whom he was underpaying and disguising the underpayments with fake pay records.
