A wholesale producer of baked goods in Boston and the staffing agencies that provide its workforce are facing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of penalties and restitutions after failing to fairly compensate its employees.
Dutch Maid Bakery, Inc. and five temporary staffing agencies have been issued 30 citations with penalties and restitutions totaling more than $440,000 for failing to comply with multiple state wage and hour laws, according to Attorney General Andrea Campbell.
The AG’s office found that the company and staffing agencies owe dozens of employees restitution.
The staffing agencies include Hub Personnel Services Inc.; Dorchester Temp Service Corp.; General Employment Service, Inc.; Amado Enterprises, Inc.; Amado Staffing d/b/a Amado Enterprises and AR Services, Inc.
The citations include failure to pay employees minimum wage and overtime wages, failure to keep and provide true and accurate payroll records, failure to provide suitable pay stubs, failure to provide workers written notice of earned sick time leave and failure to provide adequate notice of the Temporary Worker Right to Know Law, misclassification of employees as independent contractors and failure to make timely payment of wages, according to Campbell.
The investigation into the company that produces baked goods for retail stores and supermarket chains revealed it was not maintaining accurate records of its employees and did not have an earned sick time leave policy.
