Brad Lavan removed as 911 coordinator/EMA director - Daily American Online

Somerset County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to the separation of Brad Lavan from employment as the 911 coordinator/deputy EMA director, effective this past Friday.

A full-time communications officer and trainer, Troy Glofelty, of Berlin, was promoted to the position in an acting capacity by the commissioners.

The Somerset County Salary Board, consisting of the commissioners and the Somerset County Treasurer Anthony "Tony" DeLuca, met immediately after the commissioners meeting and voted 3-to-1 to increase Glofelty's salary from $44,335 to $47,035 effective Monday. DeLuca voted "opposed."

During the comment period of the salary board, George Critchfield commented: “It is a million dollar question everyone in the county wants to know. How long was Brad Lavan paid to do nothing. Now he has resigned all of a sudden and we paid him for two months longer. I think the constituents of Somerset County deserve an explanation."

Chris Furman, litigation manager at Gabriel Fera, representing the the county solicitor, said the commissioners will take that comment and discuss it.

Lavan's final day was decided the day after the commissioners denied that information to the Daily American, which had filed a Right-To-Know Law request after informally requesting the information with county officials. That denial was emailed to the newspaper Thursday.
