Breaking: Prosecutors Request Arrest of YouTuber Jeon Han-gil for False Claims Against President Lee Jae Myung - 조선일보

The prosecution has requested a bench warrant for YouTuber Jeon Han-gil (real name Jeon Yu-gwan), who is accused of spreading fake news related to President Lee Jae Myung and Reform Party leader Lee Jun-seok, among other charges.

The Human Rights Protection Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 14th that it had requested a bench warrant for Mr. Jeon, who is accused of violating the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation) and the Telecommunications Basic Act.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Jeon is accused of damaging the reputations of the president and the party leader by spreading false information related to them on his YouTube channel. He is also accused of disseminating false information for his own benefit.

On the 18th of last month, Mr. Jeon cited and broadcasted a claim on his YouTube show that "President Lee Jae Myung handed over 160 trillion Korean won in slush funds and military secrets to China." On the 23rd of last month, he stated, "There are many suspicions about whether Representative Lee Jun-seok properly graduated from Harvard University." In response, the legal affairs office of the Democratic Party of Korea and Representative Lee filed a complaint and criminal report against Mr. Jeon with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
