Breaking the Ice: Employment law ‘nerd’ earns specialist credential - Minnesota Lawyer

Some lawyers may refer to themselves as “law nerds.” But for labor and employment lawyer Janell Stanton of JacksonLewis‘ Minneapolis office, “I really feel like that’s me.”

“I love getting into the nitty-gritty of the statutes and the regulations and the case law,” Stanton said. She then enjoys the challenge of explaining those to clients so they not only understand them but can implement them and protect their companies.

Digging deeper into her practice area, Stanton recently earned certification as a specialist in labor and employment law from the Minnesota State Bar Association.

“I thought the certification was important because it reflects my experience and my long-term commitment to staying at the forefront of this field,” Stanton said.

Clients seek Stanton’s advice on Minnesota’s new paid family leave law up to three times a day, every day.

“There are still complexities and vague areas of the statute that need to be worked out,” Stanton said.
