OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KTUL) — A Broken Arrow dentist has agreed to pay more than $500,000 to the state after he allegedly violated the Oklahoma Medicaid False Claims Act.
Attorney General Gentner Drummond's office said Thursday that Rocky Cullens, who runs Stonewood Hills Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Inc., was investigated for submitting false claims to SoonerCare (Medicaid) between Jan. 1, 2021, and July 31, 2024. Cullens is alleged to have double-billed and upcoded patient encounters, billing excess units of general anesthesia as well as billing for tobacco cessation counseling for non-tobacco users.
“I take seriously allegations of false claims and attempts to defraud taxpayers,” Drummond said. “I’m pleased our investigation led to a resolution that rightfully returns funds to the State.”
Cullens will pay $532,055.76 to resolve the allegations of false claims in violation of the Oklahoma Medicaid False Claims Act. The payment includes $354,703.84 he received for claims and $177,351.92 in penalties.
The investigation began after a referral from the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. There has been no determination of liability in the case, according to the Attorney General's Office.
